January 5, 2024
Kylan Johnson, Attorney
Think estate planning is a “set it and forget it” exercise? Think again! Most likely, a lot has changed for you recently that may impact your estate plan, including:
- Has your home increased in value? In a recent three-year period, home values increased 45% nationally.
- Has the value of your investment portfolio increased? The S&P 500 has increased over 40% since January 2020.
- Do you have a new spouse, home, child, or grandchild? If so, you should consider changing your heirs, adding new heirs, and/or adjusting the gifts each heir is set to receive.
- Do any of your heirs now need a larger financial gift? Medical events and changing financial circumstances of your heirs may encourage you to adjust the gifts they will receive.
